3G In or Out

Its been awhile we started hearing about the plans about implementing the so-called-new 3G technology in India.But it never showed up.

But the wait is almost over. Now it's time to change. In fact the facet of India is going to change in the coming months with the implementation of 3G networks by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), Reliance Communications and Tata TeleServices Ltd. As India's mobile market has exploded in recent years to more than 170 million users, and as seven mobile operators compete for that growing customer base, spectrum space has gotten tighter and the quality of service has diminished. To encounter this situation, last year the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India began looking into offering third generation, or "3G", mobile services in India.

Our neighboring countries such as China,Korea and Japan had already changed to new 3G spectrum a long time time ago. They are the leaders in the area of 3G now other than USA and European Union. Korea had offered India to tie up with the implementation of 3G technologies. The success of Korea was from CDMA implementation which handed over the technology to 3G from 1993.

But the major drawbacks in implementing 3G India include,

1. The price of the mobile handsets with 3G capability is high.
2. Network upgradation under processing.
3. Special 3G contents yet to be available.
4. There exist a cold war between the 3G and Wi-max technology.

The generation gap was there. But BSNL started a plan to implement 3G with starting from Lucknow,the capital of Uttar Pradesh which will end up in high speed data transmission channels in the state. Later it will be available in all over the country. Indian govt finally gets its 3G and broadband act together to get away the interference from Wi-max.

While all the leading mobile phone producers like Nokia, Sony Ericsson, samsung,LG etc eye India to be their playground for coming years,the competition is going to tighten up.
Let's hope it will end up in the value for money technology for the cusrtomers.

iPhone 3G in India....

iPhone 3G combines three products in one - a revolutionary phone, a widescreen iPod, and a breakthrough Internet device. According to google, iPhone generates 50 times more online search request than any other mobile handset.

The iPhone 3G is an Internet-enabled multimedia mobile phone designed and marketed by Apple Inc. It has a multi-touch screen with virtual keyboard and buttons, but a minimal amount of hardware input. The iPhone's functions include those of a camera phone and portable media player (equivalent to the iPod) in addition to text messaging and visual voicemail. It also offers Internet services including e-mail, web browsing, and local Wi-Fi connectivity. The first generation phone hardware was quad-band GSM with EDGE; the second generation uses UMTS and HSDPA.
Apple announced the iPhone on 9 January 2007.The announcement was preceded by rumors and speculations that circulated for several months.The iPhone was initially introduced in the United States on 29 June 2007 and is in the process of being introduced worldwide. It was named Time magazine's Invention of the Year in 2007. On 11 July 2008, the iPhone 3G will be released which supports faster 3G data speeds and Assisted GPS.

iPhone 3G in India

Now available in 6 countries-USA,Ireland, the UK, France, Germany, and Austria.On July 11, 2008, Apple will release the iPhone 3G in twenty-two countries, including the original six. Forty-eight more are expected to follow in the months afterwards.Its expected that India falls into this group.

On June 2008, Bharti Airtel and Apple announced that they will be bringing the highly anticipated iPhone3G to customers in India later this year. iPhone 3G combines all the revolutionary features of iPhone with 3G networking that is twice as fast as the first generation iPhone, built-in GPS for expanded location based mobile services, and iPhone 2.0 software which includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and runs the hundreds of third party applications already built with the recently released iPhone SDK. Lately Vodaafone also came to the show announcing a joint tie up.

Vodafone has been giving option of pre-booking the iPhone through its website whereby you could be the among the initial ones to own it once its launched in India this year.Reacting to Vodafone’s pre-booking announcement, Airtel quickly launched their own page where iPhone fans can register for future updates about iPhone availability and price.
